Antique 19th Century Balinese Carved Polychrome Wood Garuda Sculptures with Glass Top Pedestal Tables – Pair
An extraordinary pair of antique Balinese hand-carved and polychromed wood Garuda sculptures, each displayed atop an elaborately carved pedestal fitted with a glass tabletop.
Dating to the mid-19th century, these magnificent sculptures depict Garuda, the powerful mythical bird-like figure from Hindu tradition, celebrated as the mount of Lord Vishnu and a symbol of strength, protection, and divine power.
Each impressive winged figure features intricate hand-carved detailing, expressive facial features, and richly decorated surfaces with traditional polychrome finishes. The sculptures rest upon beautifully carved wooden pedestal bases featuring dramatic maned animal figures clutching spiraled spheres, adding another layer of symbolism and sculptural artistry.
The fitted glass tabletops transform the carved pedestals into functional accent tables while allowing the elaborate craftsmanship beneath to remain visible.
With their commanding scale, vibrant decorative character, and remarkable architectural presence, this exceptional pair would make a spectacular statement flanking a grand doorway, entryway, fireplace, or gallery entrance. Equally suited to an eclectic luxury interior, these pieces beautifully combine Balinese cultural artistry with functional decorative design.
