Italian Renaissance Revival Silvered Figural Monumental Floor Candlestick

Antique Italian Renaissance Revival Silvered Figural Monumental Floor Candlestick

A remarkable antique Renaissance Revival monumental floor candlestick, exceptionally tall and richly decorated with figural and naturalistic relief work throughout.

The substantial architectural pedestal base is decorated on its sides with individual narrative figural scenes, including classically dressed figures rendered in raised relief. Above, the dramatically elongated tapered standard is covered with an intricate composition of scrolling vines, foliage, flowers, birds and animal motifs, creating visual interest from every angle.

The column rises from a fluted foliate support and terminates in a broad, deeply fluted candle platform designed to accommodate a large pillar candle. Its extraordinary height and slender proportions give the piece the presence of an architectural or ceremonial object rather than an ordinary candleholder.

The beautifully aged silvered finish has developed layers of patina, oxidation, rubbing and surface variation, with darker tones settling into the recesses and brighter highlights emphasizing the raised decoration. The resulting surface gives the piece tremendous Old World character.

A highly sculptural statement piece for an entry, fireplace, gallery, dining room or large-scale interior, particularly suited to Renaissance Revival, Italian, Neoclassical, Old World or eclectic settings.
