French Louis XVI Revival Burl Wood Cabinet / Sideboard with Figural & Neoclassical Metal Mounts and Stone Top
An exceptionally decorative French Louis XVI Revival cabinet or sideboard featuring richly figured burl wood veneers and an elaborate collection of Neoclassical metal mounts.
The cabinet is surmounted by a substantial dark stone top and features a symmetrical two-door façade framed by classical female figural mounts. The doors display beautifully figured burl panels surrounded by intricate metal borders and embellished with cascading floral garlands, ribbon-tied wreaths and swag decoration.
The architectural case is further ornamented with Greek-key borders, rosettes, acanthus leaves, floral festoons, shell ornament and classical female figures, creating an unusually rich, almost jewelry-like surface. Additional decorative mounts continue along the sides, giving the cabinet a finished appearance from multiple viewing angles.
The two cabinet doors open to reveal a spacious divided interior with upper drawers, providing substantial concealed storage while maintaining the formal appearance of the exterior.
Raised on short turned feet, the piece combines the restrained symmetry of the Louis XVI and Neoclassical traditions with the highly decorative craftsmanship associated with later French Revival furniture.
