An exceptional pair of late 19th-century French Louis XVI style bronze and iron fireplace andirons, richly ornamented with classical Neoclassical detailing.

Each andiron is crowned by an elaborate covered urn-form finial surrounded by sculptural lion-head mounts, from which beautifully cast floral and foliate festoon swags dramatically descend across the composition. Smaller urn-form finials accent the inner ends, creating an elegant and balanced architectural design.

The substantial bronze fronts feature stepped pedestal bases, rosettes, fluting, scrolling foliage and finely cast relief ornamentation. A wonderfully aged patina throughout enhances the depth and character of the intricate bronze work.

The reverse retains the substantial original iron fireplace log supports, demonstrating that these were designed as functional andirons rather than purely decorative fireplace ornaments.

A highly decorative and impressive pair with wonderful Old World character, ideal for a French Louis XVI, Neoclassical, Beaux-Arts or traditional interior.
