A striking pair of antique Spanish Gothic Revival wrought iron floor lamps, entirely architectural in presence and beautifully detailed with hand-forged ironwork from top to bottom.
Each tall, slender lamp rises from an elaborate tripod base of scrolling forged iron, creating a sculptural openwork foundation. Above, long twisted iron standards are punctuated by geometric collars and hand-worked foliate details, giving the lamps tremendous visual interest without taking away from their elegant vertical proportions.
At the top, graceful scrolling arms support a three-light crown-form gallery edged in twisted rope-form iron and pierced with small Gothic-style cutouts. Tall candle sleeves complete the ecclesiastical look, recalling the monumental torchieres and altar lighting found in historic Spanish and European interiors.
The dark aged iron surface retains wonderful variation and patina, emphasizing the hand-worked construction and giving the pair an authentic Old World character. At 69 inches high, they have enough scale to flank a fireplace, doorway, console, tapestry or large work of art while remaining relatively narrow in footprint.
A dramatic and highly decorative pair for a Spanish Revival, Gothic Revival, Mediterranean, Hacienda, Arts & Crafts or Old World interior.
