Antique Early 20th Century Davies & Co. Brass and Wood Yacht Binnacle Compass
An impressive antique yacht binnacle by Davies & Co. Shopfitters, featuring a substantial cylindrical wooden pedestal, aged brass fittings, and distinctive nautical detailing.
Dating to the early 20th century, this maritime instrument features a richly patinated wooden body supporting a substantial brass compass housing with a circular viewing porthole. Two black spherical compass-correcting elements, traditionally known as Kelvin's balls, extend from brass mounting arms on either side, creating a striking industrial silhouette.
The cylindrical pedestal features brass-mounted fittings, a maker's plaque, and an access door, while the heavy circular base includes mounting brackets originally intended to secure the instrument aboard a vessel.
Displaying warm wood tones, naturally aged brass, and authentic maritime character, this exceptional antique makes a commanding decorative statement in a coastal residence, nautical-themed restaurant, yacht club, or private collection.
An outstanding example of historic marine equipment, combining practical navigational origins with sculptural industrial design.
