A striking antique Gothic Revival style table mirror featuring an exceptionally ornate pierced brass frame and dramatic figural decoration.
The mirror is crowned by a highly detailed bearded male mascaron or grotesque mask, emerging from an elaborate composition of scrolling foliate ornament. Deeply modeled acanthus-like scrollwork continues around the entire frame, creating an openwork, almost architectural silhouette.
At the center is a shaped beveled glass mirror, framed by a narrow decorated brass border. The aged mirror plate displays visible foxing and atmospheric surface character consistent with age, adding to its authentic antique appearance.
The lower portion is finished with additional scrolling ornament and a prominent central foliate motif. An easel-back construction allows the mirror to stand independently on a tabletop, dresser, vanity or console.
The combination of the dark aged brass patina, dramatic figural mask, pierced ornament and aged beveled mirror gives this piece a wonderful Gothic, Renaissance Revival and Old World character. An unusual decorative object that works beautifully in a maximalist, traditional, Gothic or collected interior.
