Antique Chinese Chippendale Style Carved Mahogany Corner Chairs with Pierced Fretwork & Claw Feet – Pair
An elegant pair of antique Chippendale style corner armchairs crafted in richly finished mahogany. Each chair features the distinctive wraparound form associated with traditional corner chairs, with a gracefully shaped curved crest rail extending into sweeping arms supported by turned uprights.
The open backs are particularly decorative, incorporating intricately pierced and carved fretwork splats arranged around a central turned support. Below, generously upholstered shaped seats are raised on beautifully carved cabriole legs with pronounced foliate carving at the knees and terminating in carved claw-form feet. Turned stretchers provide additional architectural detail beneath the seats.
The unusual corner-chair configuration allows the chairs to be appreciated from multiple angles, while the combination of pierced carving, cabriole legs and dark mahogany gives them a distinctly Chippendale and Chinese Chippendale-inspired character.
The seats are upholstered in a traditional cream, burgundy and gold striped damask-style textile.
