Long and low with a beautifully grounded presence, this late 19th-century Shanxi bench is handcrafted from solid elm with a rich, naturally aged surface. Intricate carving runs beneath the seat, bringing an ornate softness to its otherwise strong, architectural silhouette, while subtle variations in the wood reveal generations of patina. Elegant carving details at the base. At nearly seven feet long, its unusual scale makes the craftsmanship and proportions especially striking.
