Antique 19th Century French Louis XV Style Curved Glass Marble Top Vitrine Display Cabinet

This is a beautiful cabinet from across the room, but the details become much more impressive when you get close to it. The entire case has a graceful bowed profile, topped by a beautifully shaped marble slab that follows the curves of the cabinet beneath it.

The warm wood case is surrounded by elaborate gilt-bronze mounts, including scrolling foliate decoration running beneath the marble and additional mounts accenting the vertical supports. Curved glass panels wrap around the front and sides, allowing you to see the collection inside from almost every angle.

Open the large curved glass door and the interior is completely different from the exterior. The back is lined in a rich red-and-gold Chinoiserie-patterned fabric, creating a dramatic backdrop for the glass shelves and anything displayed inside. The contrast between the warm wood, bronze decoration, pale marble and patterned interior is fantastic in person.

The lower portion is especially beautiful. Rather than sitting on a simple wood base, the cabinet is raised on an elaborate openwork metal framework decorated with swags, foliate ornament and slender feet, giving such a substantial cabinet a surprisingly light and elegant appearance.

At over 53 inches wide, this has real presence. It would be gorgeous filled with porcelain, glass, silver or collected objects, and it could also make an incredible antique bar cabinet.
