Antique Pennsylvania Dutch Folk Art Painted Blanket Chest / Hope Chest Dated 1786

Exceptional antique Pennsylvania Dutch folk art blanket chest or hope chest crafted from poplar wood with a richly painted green surface and contrasting dark trim. The facade features two hand-painted floral panels with stylized tulip arrangements and the date “1786,” while the lift top displays additional painted birds and floral decoration continuing onto the sides. The chest opens to a spacious interior storage compartment and is raised above three lower drawers fitted with early-style metal hardware. A beautiful example of American folk art with strong primitive charm and warm aged patina throughout.
