A dramatic coordinating set of antique high-back chairs by Michigan Chair Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan, comprising one armchair and one side chair. Elaborately carved frames surround shaped cane back panels, with scrolling crest rails, turned uprights, and pierced decorative front stretchers lending each chair a strong architectural presence.
The larger armchair features sweeping arms with carved scroll terminals, while the accompanying side chair repeats the decorative vocabulary in a narrower silhouette. Deep, dark wood tones contrast beautifully with the woven cane seats and backs.
An expressive pairing for an entry hall, library, or living room, combining sculptural carving with the airy texture of cane. A surviving Michigan Chair Company label is present on one chair.
