A striking and exceptionally well-made mid-century modern sculptural swivel lounge chair in the iconic Corona form designed by Danish designer Poul M. Volther. This substantial example is beautifully constructed with a remarkably heavy metal frame supporting four individually formed upholstered sections, creating the dramatic floating silhouette associated with Volther’s celebrated 1964 design.

The chair has been newly reupholstered in high-end embossed red leather, giving the sculptural form tremendous presence. Each upholstered section is individually shaped and mounted along the exposed framework, while the open construction allows the chair to look equally impressive from the front, side and back.

The quality is immediately apparent in person. This is an unusually heavy, substantial and finely constructed chair, rather than a lightweight contemporary reproduction. The metal framework and swivel base have a solid, architectural feel, and the proportions closely follow the distinctive segmented form of the original Corona chair.

No manufacturer’s label or identifying mark has been located, so we are conservatively offering this example as in the manner of Poul M. Volther rather than attributing it to Erik Jørgensen.

An outstanding statement lounge chair for a modernist interior, executive office, library or collector's space.
